Today we celebrate Mamie Barboza! YWCA Yakima is on a mission to empower women. #52women52weeks was created to celebrate and highlight the amazing women & #SHEros in the #yakimavalley. We are proud to share more about Mamie.
What is one word that describes you perfectly?
Loyal – I am a Taurus through & through.
What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Establish a clear vision of who you are and where you want to be – then aim higher & don’t stop until you get there. Believe in yourself, be confident in your abilities – but remain humble. Hire women who are smarter than you, who have different opinions and backgrounds than you – listen to them & let them do their jobs. Be gracious to others & gentle on yourself. Don’t compare yourself to others – find out what makes you special & tap into that. Make time for loved ones & things that bring you joy. Prioritize rest & healing. Stand firm on your beliefs and never compromise your core values. At the end of the day, if you can rest your head & say you did your best, then that is enough. YOU are enough.
If you could have one super power what would it be?
Supernatural healing power to heal people from illness, pain & emotional trauma.
How do you measure success?
I measure success by my own personal growth and the growth of those around me. Growth is not necessarily linear – there will be ups & downs along the journey – but each step forward is still a success.
I am empowered by _________________?
Empowering others – especially the women & girls around me. I am excited for the future of female leadership – this next generation will be a force!
What is your occupation?
