Today we celebrate Phylicia Snow! YWCA Yakima is on a mission to empower women. #52women52weeks was created to celebrate and highlight the amazing women & #SHEros in the #yakimavalley. We are proud to share more about Phylicia..

What is one word that describes you perfectly?
I wasn’t sure about this, so I had to ask the people closest to me- they said “Infectious.”

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Something I say to my Girl Scout Troop over and over again- “YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!” I also say, there is nothing wrong in asking for help. We are better together and it’s important to not be afraid to ask for help if you need it, but important to try your best first!
I like to encourage the girls to explore this gorgeous world around us. It’s ours, our responsibility to care for, and our luxury to discover.

What makes you happy?
I love spending time with my family and exploring the mountains around us.

How do you measure success?
I measure success in how I make the people in my life feel. I am not responsible for others’ emotions; however, I know and understand that my actions and my words have an effect on the people around me. So, at the end of the day, how will I be remembered?

What historical event inspires you the most?
As I look back in history, on September 17, 1787 the signing of our American Constitution inspires me the most. It gives me hope and encouragement. I truly believe that the United States IS the best country in the world because of our Constitutional Rights. It was the seed that had a ripple effect to allow women to fight for our rights and give us our freedoms that we have today.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“Speak to your children as if they are the wisest, kindest, most beautiful and magical humans on the Earth, for what they believe, they will become!” -Brooke Hampton
