Today we celebrate Sandra Bess! YWCA Yakima is on a mission to empower women. #52women52weeks was created to celebrate and highlight the amazing women & #SHEros in the #yakimavalley. We are proud to share more about Sandra..
What is one word that describes you perfectly?OPINIONATED – I usually have a strong opinion/belief about most things and never feel too scared to express them.
What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Be Bold, Be Confident, and Know your Worth! Never second guess yourself or your abilities because you can do anything you put your mind to.
What makes you happy?
Family – Being a Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, and Cousin to many.
How do you measure success?
By trying to be proud of every step I take toward reaching a goal instead of waiting until the goal has been fully met to pat myself on the back.
What historical event inspires you the most? December 1, 1955 – Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man breaking existing segregation laws. What courage and inner strength that must have taken!
What is your favorite quote and why?
“You were born God’s original, try not to become someone’s copy”. Why? We were all made in his image but intricately different, so I never want to imitate someone else, but only be true to myself.

Training Opportunities

In addition to our work responding to survivors of Intimate Partner Domestic Violence, YWCA Yakima is proud to offer training sessions for community members and organizations who would like learn more about domestic and intimate partner violence. We are also able to share information about our general services with groups, organizations, businesses, etc., as well as supply posters and brochures.

YWCA Yakima offers a variety of community training opportunities throughout the year. To view and register for trainings visit our Community Training page.
